Updating path unix

The zip and unzip programs can work with archives produced by PKZIP (supporting most PKZIP features up to PKZIP version 4.6), and PKZIP and PKUNZIP can work with archives produced by zip (with some exceptions).

zip supports mac OS X, and on that OS, most Unix features are the same.

The basic reason for not having a more full-featured package manager is that such a program would need full access to all of Cygwin's POSIX functionality.

That is, however, difficult to provide in a Cygwin-free environment, such as exists on first installation.

Leading or trailing colons should never be used, and the current directory should never be in the path.

After trying every suggestion under the sun but /etc/environment, and having them all NOT work, i finally stumbled across this. The variable values are usually stored in either a list of assignments or a shell script that is run at the start of the system or user session.

zip is useful for packaging a set of files for distribution, for archiving files, and for saving disk space by temporarily compressing unused files or directories.

In 1993, SCO acquired two smaller companies and developed the product line that was named Tarantella.

utility tracks the versions of all installed components and provides the mechanism for installing or updating everything available from this site for Cygwin.

Once you've installed your desired subset of the Cygwin distribution, setup*will remember what you selected so rerunning the program will update your system with any new package releases.

Additionally, Windows does not easily allow overwriting of in-use executables so installing a new version of the Cygwin DLL while a package manager is using the DLL is problematic. This will install an enormous amount of packages that you will never use, including debuginfo and source for every package.

Clicking on the "Default" label next to the "All" category to change it to "Install" will mark every Cygwin package for installation.
